Dragon’s Dogma 2 was one of 2024’s most memorable RPGs, but a significant part of its audience was disappointed by its save system, performance issues, and microtransactions. Capcom has now detailed Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, an expansion bringing a new story, region, endgame-focused systems, and several long-requested quality-of-life improvements.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 was one of the standout RPGs of 2024, but it also divided players sharply. Many criticised its limited save options, technical problems, numerous microtransactions, and several decisions that did not go down well with the community. Capcom has been working on patches since launch to improve some of the game’s weaker areas, and the company has now revealed the full scope of its upcoming expansion.
Everything Coming to Dragon’s Dogma 2 With the Dark Arisen Expansion
During the June 2026 Capcom Spotlight, Kento Kinoshita, who also directed the Dark Arisen version of the first Dragon’s Dogma, revealed the core gameplay systems of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The expansion is centred on Norgan, a new region with a frozen climate, where the story follows an enigmatic woman searching for the Fallen Dragon. Capcom has stressed that this is entirely new story content rather than an extension of the main campaign.
That decision has allowed Capcom to create a standalone story arc without relying on the player’s existing save file. Norgan will also feature twelve fully replayable dungeons, each with its own challenges and rewards. Unique relics can be forged into weapons and armour with special abilities, introducing the series’ first crafting system specifically built around endgame progression.
The expansion will further broaden character creation and customisation options, but Capcom is also promising several quality-of-life changes that were absent from the base game. More save options are being added, the core systems used to manage Pawns are being adjusted, and a free update arriving before the DLC launches on October 9 will improve general performance. That update will also increase the number of equipped weapon skills from four to six.
Capcom Is Also Looking for a Fresh Start With a Nintendo Switch 2 Version and Fewer Microtransactions
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2. A complete edition containing both the base game and the expansion will be available on the platform for €50, while players interested only in the DLC will be able to buy it separately for €30. Capcom has also removed several microtransactions from the game and delisted the Deluxe Edition from digital storefronts, moves that appear to be part of the preparation for Dark Arisen’s release.
