Metroid Ravenous: Rated, Then Deleted; Something Is in the Works!

The Metroid franchise may expand again soon in some form, but it remains unclear how one of Nintendo’s veteran series will return.

A rating for a possible, still-unannounced Metroid game briefly appeared online. According to Universo Nintendo, Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security website temporarily listed a title called Metroid Ravenous, before quickly removing it.

An editor at the Brazilian outlet captured a screenshot before the entry disappeared. The listing contained very little information: it reportedly named 2026 as the game’s production year, but did not provide meaningful details about genre, developer, or release date.

That is why broad conclusions should be avoided. Nintendo has not officially announced either the Metroid Ravenous title or a related new project.

Considering how long the development of Metroid Prime 4 took, if Metroid Ravenous is genuinely a new game, it seems less likely to be another first-person adventure. One exception could be if the title refers to expansion content or another project connected to Metroid Prime 4.

Based on the rumor, a new 2.5D side-scrolling Metroid may be the more plausible possibility. Metroid Dread launched five years ago and became a major critical success for Nintendo, so the timing could fit another project in that style.

Spanish studio MercurySteam developed Metroid Dread and previously worked on Metroid: Samus Returns. In 2023, the studio said it had two major unannounced projects in development. One of them was eventually revealed as last year’s Blades of Fire, while the other has still not been publicly identified.

It would not be surprising if Nintendo entrusted MercurySteam with another Samus adventure, but there is currently no official evidence for that. Until Nintendo speaks, the title, genre, and developer all remain rumor. Perhaps the next Nintendo Direct will clarify what is actually being prepared.
