While Sony has been making mistakes lately, developers looking to create emulators are taking advantage of the situation.
PlayStation 5 emulation continues to evolve. Following the progress made with Ghost of Tsushima and the Demon’s Souls remake, Grand Theft Auto V offers another glimpse into the future of widespread PlayStation 5 emulation. SharpEmu can now display the opening stages of the game, as shown in the attached video. Although the game cannot currently proceed beyond this point, MarcelMedia is optimistic about its potential. Specifically, he believes Grand Theft Auto V could be the first 3D title to run on this emulator.
Previously, KyTyPlayStation 5 v0.0.3 could reach the Grand Theft Auto V menu, proving that the emulator can launch parts of the game, though not provide a fully functional gaming experience. This is great news considering Sony has essentially stopped working on PC ports. PlayStation 5 emulation still has a long way to go, but small updates arriving every few days suggest that it will one day become a reality. Future demos should showcase stable gameplay rather than just menus and loading screens.
ShadPS4 achieves this with ease. PlayStation 4 emulation is much more advanced. Since both the PS4 and the PlayStation 5 are x86-based, they’re easier to port to PC than the PlayStation 3, which had the Cell processor. That was a major hurdle back then. PlayStation 4 emulation has taken off because Sony and FromSoftware haven’t released a PlayStation 5 port of Bloodborne yet (let alone a PC conversion). It’s likely that PlayStation 5 emulation will also take off rapidly due to the discontinuation of disc production in 2028.
So, we sarcastically congratulate Sony because it probably didn’t see this coming. Oh well, it is their problem, and not ours.

2 days and many, many fixes later, I managed to get the game to a point where we can start looking at the actual graphics/rendering pipeline.
