The Japanese publisher has been soaring lately. The same couldn’t be said a decade and a half ago during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era.
Capcom closed out another outstanding quarter, driven by the launch of a strong new IP and record-breaking sales of its catalog titles. Net revenue reached 70.41 billion yen ($430.1 million), a 54.7% increase compared to last year’s same period, and operating profit increased 66.9% to 41.05 billion yen ($250.7 million). Net income attributable to owners of the parent company increased by 69.2%, reaching 29.16 billion yen ($178.1 million). The full-year forecast remains unchanged at 210 billion yen ($1.28 billion) in net sales and 83 billion yen ($507 million) in operating profit. Sales of catalog games reached 21.26 million units, significantly exceeding the 13.36 million units sold during the same period last year. Sales of digital content nearly doubled, rising to 23.81 million units compared to 14.16 million units in the same quarter last year.
The Japanese publisher highlights the games that contributed to this outstanding financial performance. The press release begins with Pragmata, as the game surpassed the 2.5 million-copy milestone—a significant achievement for a new intellectual property. The publisher’s best-selling game of 2026 is Resident Evil Requiem, which has surpassed 8 million copies sold (a feat aided by promotions featuring discounted prices). Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil 2 Remake remain the driving forces behind Capcom’s catalog revenue, with cumulative sales of 16 million and 19.7 million copies, respectively.
Since its release in 2019, the publisher notes that Devil May Cry 5 has surpassed 14 million copies sold thanks to several initiatives, including the release of the Nintendo Switch port, limited-time promotions, and the second season of the animated series, which is available on Netflix. However, Capcom was rather vague regarding Monster Hunter’s sales figures: “Unit sales of past titles in the Monster Hunter series increased after the company announced a 2027 release window for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a massive expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, which is a major title in the flagship series released in 2025.”
With Onimusha: Way of the Sword expected to launch in just over a month and Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen set to release in October, not to mention two major releases in 2027 (the aforementioned Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance and Resident Evil: Veronica), Capcom has every chance of continuing its winning streak.
