Crimson Desert’s First Paid Expansion Could Arrive This Year, with Sequels Also Planned

Pearl Abyss is already developing Crimson Desert’s first DLC while considering new platforms and future entries for the franchise.

Crimson Desert had a divisive launch, but it has delivered strong commercial results. Pearl Abyss says the game has now sold more than six million copies, while the development team has continued refining the experience through patches and regular updates.

The studio has confirmed that the first paid expansion is already in development and is expected to arrive this year. More information about the DLC’s structure, price and release date should be revealed during the third quarter, making Gamescom 2026 a possible venue for its presentation.

Crimson Desert could grow into a wider franchise

Pearl Abyss wants to extend the game’s lifecycle with continued content updates. Its longer-term plans also include expansion to additional platforms and potential sequels, indicating that Crimson Desert is no longer being treated as a one-off project.

Multiplayer possibilities are also being considered, although their implementation would create significant technical challenges. The immediate priority therefore remains the DLC and the studio’s other projects, including DokeV.

A Nintendo Switch 2 version is already playable and currently targets the first half of 2027. Optimisation and platform requirements are still being addressed, while support for the existing PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions continues.
