The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered also demonstrates just how important Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology is for the new Nintendo hardware.

Following its release last year on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has now also launched on the Nintendo Switch 2. As the game still struggles to run smoothly on other platforms due to the performance-intensive Unreal Engine 5 handling the remastered graphics, many feared that the Switch 2 version would be poor too. However, a new comparison video shows that Nvidia DLSS is once again the system’s secret weapon, delivering better image quality and more stable performance than the Xbox Series S thanks to its lower native resolution.

The video, shared by ElAnalistaDeBits, runs the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Steam Machine versions to demonstrate why this is another excellent port. Although the settings are lower than those of the other versions, the Switch 2 version offers better quality than the low settings on PC. The base resolution is lower than on other consoles, but thanks to Nvidia DLSS, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers a sharper image that looks much better than the Xbox Series S version, which cannot rely on Nvidia’s upscaling technology.

Oblivion Remastered also runs smoothly on the Nintendo Switch 2. While this version of the game does still experience the occasional frame rate drop in open-world environments, it often runs at 30 FPS. Considering how much the game struggles on other consoles, this is an impressive result for a handheld console with less processing power than other current-generation platforms. Now that doubts about the port’s quality have been dispelled, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo Switch 2 players, who enjoy playing the game on the go, stick with Oblivion Remastered longer than PlayStation 5 players did, as they turned away from the game fairly quickly after their initial nostalgia had worn off.

As The Elder Scrolls VI is still a long way off, this remastered version of the fourth instalment in the series may be the only new content available to fans of the franchise for some time.
