Although CD Projekt RED (CDPR) is developing an official expansion for The Witcher 3, a very promising mod was recently announced!
After the game’s release in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, no one expected CDPR to bring The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt back into the spotlight with the Songs of the Past expansion before the next-gen releases for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, 2027 is shaping up to be the year of the game, thanks to an unofficial expansion called Revenge of Ofir.
In the video below, developer W3streams explains that Revenge of Ofir is an unofficial expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, developed by fans from various countries. The expansion takes Geralt of Rivia to the land of Ofir, mentioned in Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and referenced in Hearts of Stone following the conclusion of Blood and Wine. Geralt has retired and taken up winemaking in Corvo Bianco. However, he finds himself caught up in yet another story in distant Ofir. The situation there is far from peaceful following the death of the heir to the throne. Using the official REDkit modding toolkit, modders are creating a new region with new items to collect, enemies to defeat, side quests, monster hunts, nonlinear story choices, and a new Gwent card for those who prioritize the card game over resolving the crisis Geralt is in. We’ll be able to immerse ourselves in a side of Ofir we’ve never experienced before.
The Witcher 3: Revenge of Ofir appears to include all the elements that made the official expansions of the game so great. However, the developers have gone one step further to make the expansion feel like a natural part of the gaming experience. Revenge of Ofir will be released with full Polish voice acting, and Jacek Rozenek, Geralt’s official Polish voice actor, will once again lend his voice to the Witcher in the game. It would be amazing if Doug Cockle voiced Geralt in this fan-made expansion. However, it’s still great news that the expansion won’t rely on AI to recreate the atmosphere of the base game.
Regarding the release date, the developers could only say that it will be in 2027. However, they will send a preview version to select content creators so they can showcase the fan-made expansion before its release. Will it be released before Songs of the Past?
