Ubisoft is keeping The Division 2 alive seven years after launch with cross-play and the Echoes of Central Park expansion. The major update will unite players across platforms and finally open one of New York’s most important locations.

The Division 2 has travelled a long road since its 2019 debut, and Ubisoft used Gamescom 2026 to confirm that it still has ambitious plans for the open-world looter shooter. Cross-play will arrive on every supported platform in November 2026 and will be enabled by default.

The developers say the feature took so long because large parts of the game’s online architecture had to be rebuilt. Players will be able to join forces regardless of system, while clans will support up to 100 members; existing clans will migrate automatically, although the leaderboards will be reset.

Echoes of Central Park promises an even more substantial addition. The expansion will take agents into a recreation of New York’s 3.41-square-kilometre park after a mysterious distress call and rumours from the Upper West Side draw them beyond its gates.

Central Park was used as a mass burial site during the pandemic, giving the new area a darker atmosphere than the game’s previous locations. Warlords of New York and Battle for Brooklyn already returned players to the city, but the park itself has remained inaccessible until now.

Ubisoft will reveal more details about the expansion on September 24. Together, the new zone and cross-play support show that the publisher is treating The Division 2 as a continuing community platform rather than a game receiving only routine maintenance.
