Yesterday’s happenings might end up in the history books of video games as a holiday: on December 16, it was announced that Sony and Hideo Kojima have teamed up to allow the Japanese game creator to start a new chapter in his life. There has been several reactions for this move. Something rare happened: almost every key person in the industry are hopeful and happy to see Hideo Kojima join Sony. (This just digs Konami‘s grave even deeper – seeing how the former Square Enix boss also had negative comments about them, it’s not surprising.)
Mike Ybarra, the Xbox Program Management’s director, Larry Hyrb, the Xbox Live Director of Programming, Thomas Puha, Remedy’s PR-boss, Vincent Zampella, the founder of Respawn Entertainment, but even Deus Ex’s team congratulated Kojima. Surprisingly, we didn’t see Nintendo talk about it, which is weird: after all, Microsoft – the big rivals of Sony – reacted, so fair play to them.
Hideo Kojima joined Sony for one reason: he wanted an environment where he can produce things himself while feeling comfortable. He already worked together with Sony several times (remember: Metal Gear Solid 4 was a PS3-exclusive in 2008 and Metal Gear Solid 3 was PS2-only in 2005 as well, it didn’t get a PC port like 1 and 2 did.) – so there was a good working relationship and trust between the parties. He would have worked with foreign companies, too. (With who, we wonder…?)
