Electronic Arts’ Chief Competition Officer, Peter Moore has painted a different future in console gaming in his interview with The Daily Orange.
„I’m not sure there will be consoles as we know them anymore. Games will be accessed by streaming technology, so we don’t need hardware intermediaries in between the two. If you and I want to play Battlefield 12 against each other, we’ll just jump into a game via whatever monitor we happen to have in our homes. It’ll be on a chip, rather than in a box.”
He also says that the PS4 and the X1 are „well set up to advance as technology does” – this quote is a reference to the console manufacturers, and the rumors about them that they will release upgraded consoles shortly. The rumors might be true after all.
We keep hearing this kind of gaming future from more and more people in the industry. Perhaps we are at the door of a console revolution.
