We haven’t heard of the Burnout franchise for years. Unfortunately, the silence doesn’t mean that the devs are working on a new installment.
Criterion is now busy with Star Wars as Electronic Arts is flat out putting all their chips on the Disney-deal: the developers are currently working on Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission. They also help out other fellow EA studios: they had involvement in DICE’s Battlefront and Visceral’s Battlefield Hardline as well.
On Twitter, Criterion answered a few fan questions, and they told us that there’s no new Burnout game in development, and there are no plans to remaster any of the older titles either. However, Burnout Paradise is still heading toward backward compatibility… on Xbox One.
That’s a shame: Burnout games were always amazing, and it’s fun to crash and destroy. Perhaps the ex-Burnout developers who left Criterion to make a new team called Three Fields will fill the gap with a spiritual successor – they are working on a car game at the moment.
No dude. Definitely no new Burnout titles are planned right now, and that’s all there is to say at the moment. https://t.co/S70Stl8jjG

Last Oct we said we wanted Paradise on BC and that’s still the plan. No news on when it’ll be ready though. Sorry! https://t.co/s0mrJVi9IY
