The world is in a PlayStation VR-fever at the moment.
Jim Ryan, Global Head of Marketing & Sales of Sony Interactive Entertainment told CNBC that going by pre-ordering numbers, the sales can be in „hundreds of thousands,” and they also increased the production for the last months of 2016 and early 2017 to be prepared for the demand. However, he doesn’t know if they create enough PlayStation VRs yet.
GameStop, one of the biggest video game retail stores had a midnight launch for the PSVR, similar to multiple AAA games – they ended up running out of the headset according to TheStreet. Therefore, they are working together with Sony to get more. Their request makes sense: customers might be waiting for the PlayStation 4 Pro‘s launch on November 10, and they might pick PSVRs up as well, says VR Focus.
Shawn Layden, Chairmen of SIE Worldwide, told Polygon that they are selling the headset with a profit, too.
Maybe a week or two after the PlayStation VR‘s launch, we can get official sales figures. If not, the financial report on November 1 will definitely reveal some results of the PSVR!
