Battlefield 1 might be the final installment for a while in the series.
Blake Jörgensen, Electronic Arts‘ CFO shared his thoughts about the two franchises. „We won’t have Battlefield for a couple of years” – he said. This quote effectively rules out a new installment in the next year, and 2018 might be the first signs of its return. He also mentioned Star Wars Battlefront as well: „If there was criticism [about the first game], they just wanted more, so we’re taking that criticism to heart as we build the next bigger and better game and trying to address any of the issues that they had.”
Jörgensen also talked about how the company can tie more players to their games, as he says „they may monetize more over time” as they play games such as Battlefield 1. There’s also a possibility of Battlefield receiving something similar to EA Sports’ Ultimate Team (although it sounds weird: in a football game, getting the best players makes sense, but not in an FPS). It all depends whether Electronic Arts can pull it off without changing the core gameplay or not.
So Star Wars: Battlefront 2 next autumn, and until it releases, we’ll have fun with Battlefield 1.
