PlayStation 4: It Caught Up To The PlayStation Vita in Japan!

The PlayStation 4 reached two milestones last week.

According to Media Create, Sony should pop open a bottle of champagne due to the local results in Japan. Up to December 17, a total of 511255 PlayStation 4 Pro-s were sold just in that country! As the console launched there on November 10, it’s an alright result in a little over a year, although the Pro sales take just 8.85% of the total PS4 figures!

The PlayStation 4 finally left the PlayStation Vita behind. It’s not a joke: the handheld, which is nowadays ignored by Sony Interactive Entertainment, launched in December 2011 in Japan, and it took the PlayStation 4 over 3.5 years (as it became available in its domestic market in February 2014) to catch up: 5775515 PlayStation 4 sales vs. 5765869 PlayStation Vita – both are in the millions.

Let’s quickly mention the Nintendo Switch as well: on the December 11-17 week, 221210 of it was sold. It’s almost twice as much as all the other consoles’ sales combined…

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
