Electronic Arts had to respond to the rumors… so they just did that.
Last week, we wrote about in detail how BioWare‘s next game, Anthem, is faring in development. Already then, we wrote that the originally scheduled Autumn 2018 release window would not be held. Electronic Arts‘ latest financial report (which, if you feel suicidal, can be read here) confirms that the publisher has delayed the game to early 2019. That means we can forget about Anthem this year – it had development issues according to last week’s rumors. Maybe the extra months will not make it as a disappointing game like Mass Effect: Andromeda was.
The report also says something that we were already expecting: this Autumn will see a Battlefield game hit the shelves. As it’s become a bi-annual title due to the appearance of Star Wars: Battlefront (which is going to be discussed separately today…), the scheduled release makes sense. Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall) also has a Star Wars game in development. It was announced in May 2015, and Electronic Arts plans to release this title in the fiscal year of 2020 (between April 2019 and March 2020).
Two more numbers for the end: in the 2017 calendar year, FIFA had 42 million players on console, and Battlefield 1 has over 25 million unique players life to date.
