PlayStation Now will be available on Samsung TVs in early 2015

Sony has revealed that PlayStation Now, its streaming game service will be available on select Samsung HDTV sets early next year. It will be available on all Samsung Smart TVs, so with those sets you’ll only need a DualShock controller in order to play PS3 games — you won’t need a PS3 console or a Sony TV.

In the USA PlayStation Now is still in beta phase and at the moment it can only be used on selected Sony devices: Sony TVs, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The service has been in testing phase for months, and so far results have been promising — latency isn’t a real problem and the stream quality is actually pretty decent.

At this time over 200 PS3 games can be used for streaming on PlayStation Now. The only big problem of the streaming service has been its pricing. Some of the PlayStation titles cost as much to rent as to buy it in the original format – or even more in some cases. To take an example, the old F1 2013 game costs $50 to rent for 30 days. F1 2013 itself can be bought for under 10 dollars in most bargain bins.

Sony has also hinted at the possibility of adding PlayStation 4 games to PlayStation Now.

Concerning the Samsung Smart TVs, the PlayStation Now functionality will be available in early 2015. Good news that it won’t be a watered down version of the streaming service — it will support trophies, cloud saves, online multiplayer and everything else found in PS Now.
