FromSoftware‘s PlayStation 4-exclusive, which came out over four years ago by now, still has secrets…
Lance McDonald is already known for being an expert in FromSoftware games, and he usually finds interesting results after data mining them. It wasn’t any different last week either, as he discovered something significantly different regarding Father Gascoigne.
This character is meant to be the first boss fight in the game. However, when McDonald has rebuilt the game’s alpha code, he found something entirely different – initially, he was meant to be another hunter who would have joined you on the Great Bridge, and he would have been a companion NPC with several voice lines! (See the first video from about two minutes.) We don’t know how long would have Gascoigne been with us, but it’s still a huge difference from what the retail version had!
This is why there’s also The Game Awards 2014’s trailer of Bloodborne embedded as the second video, which starts with one of the unused Gascoigne lines – „Let there be no doubt… if it moves, you can be sure it’s a beast. And even if it doesn’t, well, don’t take any chances!”
It is an outstanding surprise, and it also shows how FromSoftware has turned away from their initial ideas with Bloodborne…
