RE Engine (which is going to be utilized on the next-gen consoles a lot, too, according to Capcom – we wrote about it before), used so far by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 (Remake), and Devil May Cry 5, is successful already – all three games sell quite nicely, taking respectable spots on the Japanese company’s top list.
Capcom updated its Platinum Titles page, where only games that sold over a million copies can be found. So far, 89 games have achieved this, and we wouldn’t like to copy it all (although it would make our job easier…), but we’ll point out a few important things. Monster Hunter: World (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) is at 12.4 million sales, and since it came out a little over a year ago on PS4 and X1 (and less than a year ago on PC), it is an outstanding result for the game!
Resident Evil 2 Remake (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) is at 4.2 million sales, which means the survival horror remake of the 1998 original on the PS1 can also be considered successful. Devil May Cry 5 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC), which came out two and a half months ago, is at 2.1 million sales. It’s not as strong as what the Resident Evil 2 Remake put together, but it’s still commendable. Street Fighter V (PlayStation 4, PC) is at 3.1 million, which is weak in several years… but let’s take a look at the top ten list:
1 Monster Hunter: World (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Jan 2018 – 12.4 million
2 Resident Evil 5 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) – Mar 2009 – 7.5 million
3 Resident Evil 6 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) – Oct 2012 – 7.3 million
4 RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Jan 2017 – 6.4 million
5 Street Fighter II (SNES ) – Jun 1992 – 6.3 million
6 Resident Evil 2 (PS1) – Jan 1998 – 4.96 million
7 Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (PSP) – Dec 2010 – 4.9 million
8 Monster Hunter X (Cross) (3DS) – Nov 2015 – 4.3 million
9 Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS) – Oct 2014 – 4.2 million
10 Resident Evil 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) – Jan 2019 – 4.2 million
Two franchises are almost all taking the top ten…
