TECH NEWS – As nowadays Sony generates profit mostly via the PlayStation brand, the company is suffering on other fronts. One of them would be the mobile division.

In the third quarter of 2019, Sony managed to sell a total of only six hundred thousand smartphones. No wonder that Sony’s Xperia phones are making a loss, as nor the Xperia 1, neither the 21:9 smartphones weren’t able to begin a turnaround, which is why they decided to exit the United States’ or India’s market altogether as part of their expense cutting scheme. They also announced that a few services are going to be shut down shortly – the issue is that Sony designed them explicitly for the Xperia devices, so it could be an issue in the middle term.

For Sony Xperia 5 and newer, Sony’s Email app is effectively dead, and it’s also going to leave the Google Play store, too. Then, the Software update newsletter, sent out to the users of Xperia devices, is also going to be discontinued from December 16. Instead, the users will get directly notified about updates. There’s also the Amazon-powered Backups in Sony’s Albums app. After an update, it will no longer work from March 31, and even if you don’t update the gallery, Amazon Backup will still stop working.

With this news, it’s safe to say is Sony is slowly dying on the mobile frontier – as they didn’t try with innovation, competitive pricing, or concentrating on growing markets, they now have to pay the price. And the PlayStation 5 alone possibly can’t turn the entire Sony Corporation a profit, especially how consoles need time until they start becoming profitable. Sony isn’t in the best situation if we take the PlayStation brand out of the picture.
