Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II – As expected: even though Microsoft was tricking us during the announcement at The Game Awards, we already suspected that the situation is slightly different.
So the first game that they announced for the Xbox’ model name Xbox Series X was Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II (which has an even more confusing name as the first one’s – Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was developed by Ninja Theory first for the PlayStation 4 and the PC, followed by an Xbox One, and a Nintendo Switch port later; the „AA” title that is meant to be a bridge between indie titles and AAA games even has VR support). Already then, we believed that Microsoft will not make this exclusive to the new console, as 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite, which is going to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X, will also be available on the Xbox One and the PC, too.
Aaron Greenberg, the general manager of Xbox’ games marketing, answered with a simple comment on Twitter: „It’s being made exclusively for Xbox and PC.” It makes sense, as Ninja Theory is now part of the Xbox Game Studios, so unless Microsoft changes its mind, they won’t develop games for the PlayStation 5 or the Nintendo Switch.
„The possibilities of what Xbox Series X enables developers to achieve was also brought to life this evening with the unveiling of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. A sequel to the award-winning Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice from world-renowned developers Ninja Theory, the game is being built to leverage the full power of Xbox Series X. The footage shared tonight was captured in-engine and reflects the power of Xbox Series X available to developers to deliver new universes, experiences and games in ways you have never imagined,” Microsoft wrote about the game in its Xbox Series X announcement.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’s release date is unknown. It is unlikely to be a launch title next year.
