Star Wars: Squadrons: EA Motive’s Game Got Leaked

What on Earth is Microsoft doing that they keep leaking all the announcements?

It’s the third time in a month. First, Mafia: Trilogy got revealed prematurely, then recently, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, the remaster of the original, was also revealed via the Xbox website. Now, we’re at case number three: enter Star Wars: Squadrons.

The Xbox.com website leaked Electronic Arts‘ next Star Wars title, developed by EA Motive. (This studio was led by Jade Raymond, who previously was essential at Ubisoft in building Assassin’s Creed’s foundations. After Ubisoft and Electronic Arts, she now works at Google as the head of Stadia Games & Entertainment.) We previously heard about this game, albeit under another title – until now, we heard about it as Star Wars: Project Maverick. This is the name the game used when it was found on the PlayStation Network in March.

VentureBeat, citing sources familiar with the game’s development, says that Star Wars: Squadrons is an aerial and space combat game, where we could pilot ships in head-to-head battles. Although it will come with a single-player campaign, the focus will be on the team-based multiplayer. (Hopefully without loot boxes. The last time a Star Wars game had multiplayer, it was terrible in Star Wars: Battlefront II…) The site says the game is planned to arrive this autumn on „consoles and PC” – it means it could be a cross-gen (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One) title. On PC, we’ll see the game on both Origin and Steam due to Electronic Arts working together with Valve. (Then again, you still need the Origin client for the Steam release.)

Electronic Arts has since confirmed that Star Wars: Squadron’s first trailer will be premiered on YouTube on June 15, at 8 AM Pacific/11 AM Eastern/5 PM CET. Before EA Play. Bold.
