Project Athia: Luminous Productions’ First Game [VIDEO]

The new Square Enix studio immediately develops a next-gen title.

This game was also announced during PlayStation 5: The Future of Gaming; and Project Athia is just a working title for now. The game was announced for PlayStation 5 (as a console-exclusive) and PC. „Project Athia (working title) is the first game from Square Enix’s newly established studio, Luminous Productions, an other-worldly adventure in development for the PlayStation 5 and PC. Designed for PlayStation 5, Project Athia will harness the full power of the console and demonstrates Luminous Productions’ philosophy to provide a gaming experience like never before, fusing the latest technology with art. Project Athia will transport players to a world filled with beauty and dismay as they set upon a thrilling story-led, action-packed adventure which can be twisted, tempestuous and forbidding. Project Athia is being developed simultaneously for PS5 and PC,” Square Enix’ overview says.

The PlayStation Blog has a bit more information (which is already far more than what we had for Horizon Forbidden West and Pragmata, both discussed earlier today). We’ll just quote the new parts: „[…] With the PlayStation 5, our vision truly comes to life […] It is a journey that we want to feel as much yours as it is our protagonists. We are hard at work on making full use of the exciting potential of the PlayStation 5 hardware for this project. While today was just a sneak peek, we’ll have a lot more to show you in the future and we can’t wait to tell you more about the game.”

We’re going to take a guess and say this is Final Fantasy XVI, just under a disguise. Final Fantasy XV started as Final Fantasy Versus XIII nearly ten years before its launch, and history might repeat itself, and we could see development issues here as well. Especially how Square Enix also has to focus on future episodes of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Project Athia is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC (with an Xbox Series X version possible later), and it’s likely several years away from launch. 2022?

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
