Ubisoft: Someone Got Fired From The Company Due To Harassment Allegations!

The French company keeps finding more and more people during its internal investigation.

The press doesn’t stop kicking Ubisoft, and it keeps going – Stone Chin, Ubisoft’s PR director, got outright fired from the company. He wrote a Twitlonger, which we will quote in case he deletes it.

„[…] I was terminated by my employer last week. My employer told me that the reason for my termination was its conclusion that I have failed to uphold the company’s code of conduct throughout my career at the company. My employer did not cite the allegation of sexual assault as a reason for my termination.

Specifically, it cited my management style, which it found consisted of passive-aggressiveness, disrespectful language to former direct reports, and giving the cold shoulder to coworkers. My employer also cited incidents years ago when I asked two coworkers out on dates and when they declined, felt that I gave them a cold shoulder in response. I have not been given the full investigation report so I cannot speak directly about any findings made by my employer or its lawyer. […]

I also acknowledge that I have failed to understand the gender power dynamic, particularly in the games industry. I have not always considered how my actions are received interacting with a woman in this industry, and I apologize for being ignorant of the many nuanced struggles women face every day. I will do better in this. […]”, the statement reads.

There was already a tweet in 2018, which asked, „Will Stone Chin ever face consequences? Probably f____ng not.” This is the first time someone got FIRED from Ubisoft due to harassment allegations – all the other higher-ups that left the company stepped down on their accord! (Except for one person – Cécile Cornet, the former head of the human resources – HR – department of Ubisoft, is still with the company.)

On Gamesindustry, we can read Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s comment about the subject, which he said during the company’s quarterly earnings report. (We’re not going into detail: everything is in the green, the company is flying due to the profits gained during the coronavirus. Electronic Arts is in the same shoes.)

„Each time we’ve been made aware of misconduct, we made tough decisions and made sure that those decisions had a clear and positive impact. It has now become clear that certain individuals betrayed the trust I placed in them and didn’t adhere to Ubisoft’s shared values. So I have never compromised on my core values and ethics, and I never will,” Guillemot said.

Ubisoft also announced a five-point action plan, which we will recap in short: a series of investigations led by an external company, and punishing those who are found guilty with rigour, the editorial department’s reorganization led by Guillemot, the transformation of the HR processes, an anonymous feedback system, and the appointment of a head of workplace culture and a head of diversity of inclusion.

Smells like PR.
