Microsoft will have some advantage, a few people claim.

Currently, all that is official that Xbox Series X will launch in November, while the PlayStation 5 has nothing more as a release window as this Holiday season. You can’t plan much with this information, especially how these consoles will cost a lot of money when they become available. VGC started to discuss the potential release date of the PlayStation 5.

Both Sony and Microsoft plan for early-to-mid November (it makes sense: we already discussed the next-gen Xbox controller having a sticker on it saying it should not be sold or displayed before November 6…), so Sony’s alleged November 13 start looks plausible, as we have heard several games to become available from that day. (All we say is: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, its site claims the next-gen version will launch in „late 2020” outside North America. Are they seeing the new consoles first?)

Microsoft thus plans for the first, or MAYBE the second week of November, and Sony is going for the second week. They aren’t considering later periods, as there’s Thanksgiving on November 26, followed by Black Friday that would cause both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X to be ignored due to the sales of other products – and the console manufacturers do not want that.

„We expect Sony and Microsoft to launch next-generation consoles as planned this holiday, despite disruption to the supply chain earlier this year due to Covid-19. Production for both consoles began at the end of June to meet the demand for the holiday launch. While production is ramping up and component scarcity is less of an issue than before, we believe that logistics issues will be a barrier for both platform holders to overcome this holiday, with the impact from Covid-19 leading to long shipping times and shortages on store shelves during the launch period. We expect Sony and Microsoft to utilise air shipments, which will cost more, to meet demand this year,” Daniel Ahmad, a senior analyst of Niko Partners, wrote.

The second wave could wash things away, though. Didn’t Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, say he wants the PlayStation 5 to be available simultaneously?
