Marvel’s Spider-Man, which launched on the PlayStation 4 two years ago, might get a standalone PlayStation 5 version, too.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been confirmed to get a standard version, as well as the Ultimate Edition. The latter, more expensive version is going to cost more for a good reason: this edition will also include Marvel’s Spider-Man, remastered for the PlayStation 5, meaning it will give you a double dose of Spidey amongst the PS5 launch titles.
Insomniac Games, the team behind both games (and who have been acquired into Sony Interactive Entertainment as well), wrote on Twitter that Marvel’s Spider-Man’s saves from the PlayStation 4 will not work on the PlayStation 5, so even if you have a PlayStation 4 > PlayStation 5 support (backward compatibility), you won’t have any tricks with the save files. The studio also considered that those who already pre-ordered the standard version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales can pay the extra twenty dollars to have the 2018 Spidey adventures moved from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5.
Still, Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment don’t plan to have a physical edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 5… so unless Limited Run Games makes one, there will be no game case and disc on your shelf. They also said that there will be „no collectors edition at this time, we figured you’d want the cash for a shiny new console and other games.” Good idea.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a PlayStation 5 launch title, and it will be available from November 12 in North America and November 19 in Europe, respectively. It’ll also be available on the PlayStation 4, and the PS4 > PS5 upgrade will be free. Marvel’s Spider-Man’s PlayStation 5 remaster is currently only available via a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.
