Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, claims that in comparison to the four (home) PlayStation consoles, the PlayStation 5 will be stronger in terms of exclusives.
The exclusive games play a pivotal role in the success or failure of a console, although in this new generation, their role will be slightly smaller due to the arrival of backwards compatibility. In Microsoft’s case, Halo Infinite was delayed to 2021, but even before that, it was confirmed to also launch on Xbox One.
„We intend to keep that going and to love and respect the PlayStation 4 community, while at the same time recognising that millions of gamers are ready to — and want to — move into a world of game experiences that are only possible on PlayStation 5. It was very nice to be able to demonstrate that. Again, here Worldwide Studios is excelling, and the line-up of exclusive games — either at launch or in the launch window — is by far the strongest that we’ve ever had on any new console.
We tried to give a sense of that. You would certainly get the progress that has been made with the games you saw a few months back. There was real substance to the demonstrations. There were strong and powerful presentations. And they’re very important to us as we have to talk about the business side of things, the numbers side of things, just to ensure that that’s going to be well accompanied by the demonstration of great next-generation gameplay,” Ryan told Gamesindustry.
The PlayStation 5 Standard Edition and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will launch on November 12 in North America and on November 19 in Europe, respectively. The base model with the Ultra HD Blu-ray drive will cost 500 dollars/euro, while the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition version will cost 400.
