The fourth Night City Wire broadcast for CD Projekt RED‘s next game confirmed that the team worked together with Porsche on a car.
Cyberpunk 2077 will include Porsche 911 Turbo that is based on the 1974 model, and it will be a fully functional car in the game. The car’s presence is related to Johnny Silverhand, whose voice acting, looks and mocap performance were provided by Keanu Reeves. The 911 kept its classic look, but it got modernised a bit by having a LIDAR at the front (light detection and ranging), a set of sensors and elements that can identify the car in the air, electronic mirrors, and monitors within the vehicle.
„Johnny’s a legend of the Cyberpunk universe. When thinking about what kind of car he’d be driving through the streets of Night City, we knew it would have to be one just as legendary as he is. Having Johnny’s story in mind, and being huge fans of Porsche ourselves, the answer could only be the classic 911 Turbo,” said CD Projekt RED art director of characters Pawel Mielniczuk in a press release. But the German car manufacturer also played a role in the work. They built a real-life, fully functional replica, which will be displayed outside the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart until October 22. They even made a commercial, featuring this car.
The Rides of the Future video provides an in-depth look at the variety of cars, bikes, and other means of transportation in Night City. The second one shows how the team recorded the audio for them, the third one discusses Arch Motorcycle. It’s co-founded by Gard Hollinger and Reeves, and one of their bikes will be in Cyberpunk 2077. 2077 in Style is about the fashion of the citizens (neomilitarism, for example), and The Diner is a CG trailer that shows what you need to get to the top. The final video is by Porsche.
Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on November 19 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (and on each major store on PC), as well as the Google Stadia, as confirmed by CD Projekt RED. The PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series will both support the game out of the box, but the next-gen patch is coming at a later date.
