Creative Assembly Is Still Working On An FPS For SEGA

And meanwhile, Microsoft is teasing something regarding them.

About two and a half years ago, we first heard about Total War-developer Creative Assembly‘s FPS project via a job listing. The studio then officially confirmed it in early 2019, when the team showcased it to a movie director named Neil Blomkamp. However, since then, we heard nothing, until now – Gamesindustry interviewed Tim Heaton, the chief studios officer at SEGA Europe, where he confirmed this game still being under development.

„Each one of our studios does own a franchise, and they’re all mature now by and large. So what we’re trying to do now is look at new IP. There’s a new FPS game coming from Creative Assembly, and they’re growing teams around new IPs. Our internal studios have this two-pronged strategy: do more with what you’ve got, and think about new IP,” he said. Unfortunately, this still doesn’t reveal what Creative Assembly is making. (They previously had Alien: Isolation under their belt, so they have some experience in the first-person perspective…)

Meanwhile, something is happening between Microsoft and SEGA. Aaron Greenberg, the marketing boss of Xbox, posted the following Instagram story.

He hopes that we all enjoy some gaming this weekend. That sounds fine but look closely at the image. It features an Xbox controller and a hedgehog. Guess what is SEGA’s one of key IPs? It’s Sonic the Hedgehog. It can’t be a coincidence: it’s possibly hinting at a The Game Awards announcement, which is just a couple of days away.

We still think that after the acquisition of Zenimax (which owns Bethesda, plus several studios AND their IP… such as Doom, Fallout, Dishonored, or The Elder Scrolls, to name a few), Microsoft might also purchase SEGA, which would give the Redmond-based company some direct presence in Japan that could boost the success of the Xbox Series there.
