The retailer wants to stop a group of scalpers to resell their stock for a lot of cash, and with this move, they might allow harmless players to acquire a console for the original price and not its double or triple cost.

Very a retailer in the United Kingdom cancelled the orders for over a thousand consoles. The site’s desire with this shock move was to stop CrepChiefNotify, a scalper group, from acquiring the entire stock of the new hardware to gain additional thousands of pounds of profit from these purchases.

According to Sky News, all the orders placed on Sunday (November 29) were cancelled, as those orders were picked up thanks to a „technical error.” And CrepChiefNotify has automated the ordering by using scripts and bots, allowing them to circumvent all the retail cues, and get a hand on the new products that are highly sought after, including the new generation of consoles.

Very has cancelled all orders, and the site stated that „these items are not on sale and affected customers have received notice that the orders have been cancelled. We apologise for the confusion caused.” And it could be the first of many moves to step up and stop the scalpers – it could be followed by other retailers in the next few days.

If one retailer dares to move this step, then the others should keep track of how much time passes between the arrival of the new stock (or the addition of the new units to the database…) and their respective orders. If it’s a ridiculously short period (like less than one minute), then it should be addressed, especially if the arrival of new stock was not announced anywhere, and was just silently added.

Do not buy from scalpers.
