Ghost Of Tsushima Reaps Another Award, Now On „Home Soil”

Sucker Punch‘s Summer-released PlayStation 4-exclusive gets more and more recognition.

While the PlayStation Blog’s fan vote did not bring Ghost of Tsushima up as the PlayStation 4 game of the year (it was The Last of Us Part II – we wrote about it before), the game, set in medieval Japan in the middle of a Mongol invasion, did win an award for the best art direction at The Game Awards.

In Famitsu, a Japanese publication, we read that several game developers were asked: what was their game of the year? A total of 132 personalities (including producers, character designers, directors, developers from companies such as SNK, Square Enix, Nippon Ichi Software, SEGA, Capcom, Koei Tecmo, Arc System Works, etc…) were asked, and for them, the game of the year was Ghost of Tsushima.

It’s an incredible result, as it’s a game developed in the United States! And if a Japanese story is appreciated by the developers n the country despite it being an American development, that goes to show that it’s a quality product… but then again, the Japanese devs tend to prefer Western titles.

Ghost of Tsushima was followed by Animal Crossing: New Horizons (which is a Nintendo Switch killer app, there’s no reason to deny it…), Final Fantasy VII Remake (Part 1), Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin, and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. As a comparison, in 2019, we saw Death Stranding, Dragon Quest Walk, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on the podium, and in 2018, we saw another foreign PlayStation 4-exclusive title to be voted as the game of the year (Marvel’s Spider-Man by Insomniac Games).

Congratulations to Sucker Punch – Jim Ryan, the CEO and president of Sony Interactive Entertainment did say it for a good reason that this studio has stepped forward the most this year. And it’s surprising to see The Last of Us Part II not even making the top five.
