Electronic Arts‘ end-of-the-year big title is slowly leaking, and now, new rumours have surfaced about Battlefield 6 (which might be called something else).
The new Battlefield is in development, that is 100% confirmed. Even the publisher said that it will be revealed this spring, and until then, we call it tentatively Battlefield 6. Tom Henderson, a reliable Battlefield insider, published new details about the upcoming game. For example, he claims Levolution will be on steroids. Levolution is the name of the Destruction feature in Frostbite 3 (Destruction 4 was renamed to Levolution), which was first seen in the autumn of 2013 with Battlefield 4. Henderson claims that players will be able to destroy every structure except for those that are part of mission objectives.
He also says there will e four classes in the game, namely Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. However, there will also be platoons, called Units. These can include 3-4 squads with a „Unit Leader” for easy management of big teams. There will be battle passes as well, and each season should take eight to ten weeks. Cross-play is planned, and Henderson believes Battlefield 6 will be a cross-gen title (meaning both the 2013 and the 2020 consoles will get the game). There will also be a free-to-play element, which is possibly planned to be a direct competitor to Call of Duty: Warzone. In other words, a battle royale mode. Andrew Wilson, the CEO of Electronic Arts, was asked about the free-to-play element during the company’s quarterly financial earnings call, but he had nothing to share about it…
Battlefield 6 is going to be revealed in a few months, and it’s possibly launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Origin), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It’d make sense: 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition launched on both the new and the old consoles, a year after the launch of the PS4/X1 duo…
