Flashback 2 will also have the involvement of the creator of the first game, meaning the sci-fi cinematic platformer will stay as authentic as it possibly can.
Flashback was developed by Delphine Software and was released in ’92 for Amiga, followed by many ports in ’93, including a SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis, SNES, or PC port (it’s also on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch by now). The studio name might be familiar to you, as this group was also responsible for Another World (released in ’91). Both games have become memorable in French video game history, although Another World might have had a bigger impact.
Now, Microids announced that Flashback 2 is going to happen in 2022 (thirty years after the Amiga launch of the first game) on „consoles and PC.” „We are super excited to offer the fans a sequel to this masterpiece of the French video game history. At Microids, we thrive for delivering projects highlighting the craft of talented individuals. Paul Cuisset is a French hall of famer known internationally. We are proud to work hand-in-hand with him and his team on this project,” said Microids CEO Stephane Longeard in a press release.
„Developing a sequel to Flashback is an idea I’ve had for a very long time. I can’t wait for players to discover the new adventures of Conrad B. Hart, a character created almost 30 years ago. With Microids, we are really aiming to please the fans of the original title while being appealing to any players with a weak spot for futuristic games,” Flashback creator Paul Cuisset added.
This is a surprise, that’s for sure, but we have yet to see more details (such as a trailer or some screenshots) about this game. It’s going to be a tough task to provide a better experience than the first game! We’ll see next year.
