The cyberattack that CD Projekt suffered in February might be seeing its consequences…
A few months ago, CD Projekt RED (CDPR onwards) claimed that a cyberattack has hit them, which impacted Cyberpunk 2077‘s post-launch development as well. They claimed that the internal systems have been partially compromised and that certain data got stolen. However, we can name those: RedEngine’s (this would be their proprietary engine), The Witcher 3‘s, its announced and confirmed next-gen version’s, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales’ and Cyberpunk 2077’s source code have all been stolen.
We previously wrote about how on the dark web, an auction was planned to sell this data. The starting bid was one million dollars, with the buy now price having been set at seven million, as we mentioned in the past. However, the seller has cancelled the bid, as they received an outside offer that was deemed to be satisfactory, Kela, a cyber intelligence form, reports. Databreaches.net reports that the data pack mentioned in the previous paragraph has shown up online. The ResetEra forums have a text file that reveals even more than this…
For ten thousand dollars, we can get the passwords for the protected 7z files, but the SDK (software development kit) for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and presumably Xbox Series X, did not get a password. The CDPR-related data (company reports, NDAs, and the like) will not be shared with the public, but these have been sent to the media. The ransomware attack was reportedly performed by HelloKitty, who has leaked the source code of Gwent before the auction was supposed to happen. (And the document is somewhat outdated, as it asks Elon Musk, the head of Tesla, to buff Bitcoin on April 1 a bit.)
The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 will both get a PlayStation 5/Xbox Series (and likely an updated PC) version in the second half of the year.
