According to the actor, Anton Castillo (who was formed similarly to a previous Cuban leader…) will not be a villain in the plot of Far Cry 6.

During Summer Game Fest, Esposito said: „[Ubisoft] came to me with this phenomenal idea and had proposed that I play Anton Castillo, the leader of Yara with this big vision and dream for his country … he was a guy that first came from a love of his family and a love of his community and country, and was so in line with what’s going on with the world today and what has happened in the past.”

Esposito (who has played numerous villains in the past such as Gus Fring from the TV show Breaking Bad) claimed „I am not a villain… this guy loves his country. He wants to empower you. He wants to empower you to stand up and speak your truth. I feel like we as human beings fall in line, and I want to be a renegade within reason … there’s good and bad about all people, but this guy — out of his love and passion for his people — even if they’re faceless to him at certain points in time, allow him to be an absolute hero.”

He mentioned that his character was based on Fidel Castro, who had „the ability to cultivate [Cuba’s] resources” but „something” got in the way. The character also included some elements from two other dictators, namely Nicolae Ceaușescu and Adolf Hitler (the former was the head of communist Romania from 1965 until his execution in 1989). Esposito says that the dictators’ mindset „has you wanting to have power over others” and that „each dictator is different.”

This sounds political. Previously, Ubisoft claimed the game is not meant to be political (and we discussed the subject), only for Navid Khavari, its narrative director, to confirm that its story is indeed political, also having been in the news. (And Battlefield 2042 also seems to be on a similar path, if we think a little more about it.)

Far Cry 6 will launch on October 7 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Uplay, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia.
