MOVIE NEWS – The funny thing is that this star was recently mentioned as a possible future James Bond!

In the old days, commercials for new movies included clips of ordinary viewers leaving the theatre with their own opinions about movies. However, the “common man” is a young Idris Elba, leaving the cinema with a friend, giving his opinion on the then-new James Bond: Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye.

Idris had an opinion of Pierce Brosnan, who was the new James Bond at the time: “He’s outstanding, he’s got the charm, he’s got the looks, you know what I mean. And fit and strong and blah blah blah blah. He’s all right; he’s all right.”

Yes, the now potential new James Bond was talking about the (then still new) 1995 James Bond, who happened to be Pierce Brosnan at the time. Interestingly, Brosnan himself felt he was a good choice for the African-American actor recently when talking about the next James Bond and said so, claiming so:

“Idris Elba comes to mind”

(thus “giving back” a positive review), and added that he thought “Idris’s charismatic presence and great voice acting” would make him a great Bond.

Idris Elba has played somewhat similar roles in several films as Bond: a Bond-like CIA super-agent in the spy thriller Bastille Day and a mythical gunslinger in Set in a Tower, based on the Stephen King novel. Just how good an African-American actor in his early fifties would be for James Bond is an interesting question… What do you think?
