The Japanese company, Konami is trying to restore its former reputation, but it will be complicated.
We’re not talking about the nearly scandalous launch of eFootball (since we discussed it yesterday, Konami apologized, adding that they’ll try their best to bring the free-to-play game, which was formerly running as an annual premium game called PES, or Pro Evolution Soccer, into the shape it deserves), but about how Metal Gear: Survive wasn’t necessarily a game that people wanted (Hideo Kojima didn’t work on it), resulting in the players’ anger at Konami, who, at the time, also used its IPs for pachinko machines.
VGC based on anonymous sources, claims that Castlevania, Metal Gear (Solid), and Silent Hill might all prepare for a comeback. The first game would be a new Castlevania game that would reimagine the series. It’s in development in-house at Konami, with several Japanese external studios providing support. Also, a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater-themed remake is in the works at Singaporean Virtuos. Before it, however, Konami would release remastered versions of the other Metal Gear Solid titles.
Eurogamer added that Konami has indeed been mulling over a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, even going as far as planning to move the game to the Fox Engine, with the cutscenes getting lifted over from the MGS3 pachinko. VGC added that several external studios are working on a few silent Hill Games, and earlier this year, Konami outsourced one’s development to a prominent Japanese dev team.
A quick recap: Akira Yamaoka, Silent Hill’s composer, teased an announcement for “the one you’ve been waiting for” in a now-deleted Al-Hub interview. The alleged summer reveal didn’t happen, and Konami denied that they requested the interview’s takedown. However, Eurogamer noted that the publisher wasn’t happy with Yamaoka’s comment. Gematsu added that a new Silent Hill is handled at Kojima Productions, with funding by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
None of this is official yet.
