Daniel Craig broke Dave Bautista’s nose on the set of Spectre

In an interview promoting No Time To Die, Daniel Craig told the story, and Dave Bautista was happy to share a photo he took after the incident. Tough business!

Ahead of Daniel Craig’s final Bond appearance, No Time To Die, the actor appeared on The Graham Norton Show to talk about the upcoming film and his past as a super spy. During the interview, he spoke about when he broke Dave Bautista‘s nose when the pair were filming a fight scene in Craig’s final film, Spectre. Since the interview aired, Bautista has now mined his selfie archive to pull out a picture he took immediately after the incident and added commentary to the story.

Craig, who appeared on the BBC’s UK chat show, told the story when asked about the most severe injuries he suffered while working on the Bond franchise and recalled the incident that resulted in the Guardians of the Galaxy actor’s nose being “broken”.

“I blew my knee out on the set of Spectre; the guy who did it was Dave Bautista; God bless him, who is a professional wrestler,” Craig said, speaking about the fight scene. “I ended up on the wall, but my knee was in there somewhere. I knew, and it was horrible because when someone has had a serious injury, you just know in your head that something is very wrong.” He went on to talk about what happened next, “It was a mistake. As I said, he’s a big guy, a professional wrestler; you wouldn’t really mess with him. I threw this punch, I hit him on the nose, I heard this crack, and I thought ‘Oh God no’ and I ran away”.

Although Daniel Craig was poorly hurt, he finished by saying Bautista took it all on himself and “literally did something like this” as Craig mimicked pushing his nose back into the joint “and said ‘It’s OK’“.

Posting on his Twitter account, Dave Bautista shared a picture he took shortly after the incident, saying, “I dug this up. I took this right after I cleaned myself up”. In another post, he added: “He started screaming ‘F- I broke his nose!!!’. And I did. Then he hugged me, apologised, we laughed, I changed my clothes, stuck TP up my nose, and we proceeded to have one of the best fight scenes ever. I’m very proud of him. And I love DC,” the star finished, referring to his co-star.

Craig appeared at the royal premiere of No Time To Die at London’s Royal Albert Hall last night ahead of the film’s UK release this weekend and the US release next weekend. Early reviews of the film are positive and promise to make the long wait for Daniel Craig’s farewell as James Bond worthwhile. While all the attention is now focused on who will take over the Bond mantle, with many fans putting Henry Cavill at the top of the list, franchise producer Barbara Broccoli recently said that the search for Craig’s successor will not begin until next year so that the actor can fully enjoy his swan song. No Time to Die opens tomorrow in the UK and the US on 8 October.
