Although there will no longer be an event, Blizzard promised to provide announcements and updates on its games in development.
Blizzard has had a tough time in recent months. The departure of its president and the scandal about harassment in the company all led to a slow collapse that continues to this day. Now, the company has announced the cancellation of its annual event, BlizzConline 2022, which was to be held in February 2022.
The news was released via a letter to the community, mentioning that the event requires much time and energy from everyone involved. Instead, Blizzard will use its resources to support the teams and progress all games and experiences.
In addition to this news, the company took the opportunity to mention what we can expect from future BlizzCon events. “We’re committed to continual communication with our players, and we see BlizzCon playing a big role in that going forward,” the statement reads.
No matter what the event holds in the coming years, Blizzard will make sure it “feels as safe, welcoming, and inclusive as possible”. The statement also mentioned that, despite not having BlizzConline 2022, there would be no shortage of announcements of titles that are in development.
Blizzard mentioned a few months ago that BlizzCon would be held digitally for a while, as the in-person event is too difficult due to the pandemic. We don’t know if the next one they announce will be online, but seeing how controversial the harassment trial was, it may be a while before the dust settles.
