The Finnish team is also setting up a studio “next door”, and since we’ve heard that they’re working on several projects at once, it makes sense that Remedy Entertainment is expanding.
In its latest quarterly report. Remedy said that Alan Wake Remastered was the first small project for Epic Games Publishing (and the first to make the journalist’s story available on PlayStation platforms, which unfortunately left out American Nightmare…). “In September, we announced that the smaller of the two Epic Games Publishing projects, Alan Wake Remastered, was completed and ready to be launched in October on PC on the Epic Games Store, Xbox, and for the first time in the franchise’s history, PlayStation consoles. The launch marks a special moment for us and Alan Wake fans around the world. After the reporting period, we have seen that the game has been received positively by critics and players alike, and sales have started well,” Tero Virtala, Remedy’s CEO, said.
Remedy then added that the larger Epic Games Publishing project had entered full development, which is good timing as the royalties from Control have not brought as much money to the house, which is why their revenue is down. However, Virtala did not forget to add that sales are still happening two years after Control’s release. In February, Control Ultimate Edition undoubtedly helped (which also brought the game to Xbox Series and PlayStation 5). There are two Control projects in the pipeline, one of which will be a multiplayer spinoff. “Condor remains in the proof-of-concept stage, whereas the bigger-budget Control game is in the concept stage. We are excited for both projects as they further expand Control into new games and game types. In addition, we will act as the co-publisher for Condor, which enables us to build more commercial capabilities and strengthen our position in the value chain,” Virtala added.
The Finnish team also revealed that they were looking for developers in Sweden, and since the test was successful, the studio now has an office in Stockholm. The trial period lasted for more than a year and was managed by Johnny Mang, the general manager of the Vanguard project. “For over a year, multiple Sweden–based talent have been working for the company as part of a pilot initiative in Stockholm, led by the General Manager of our Vanguard project, Johnny Mang. The shift to location-agnostic work in the wake of COVID made us realize that Remedy is a state of mind, rather than a place in Finland,” Mang said.
Remedy aims to employ 25 developers in Sweden by the end of 2022, and plans include a hybrid working model. And it’s a good idea: if something can be done at home, it’s both convenient and requires travel between home and work.
