Samsung Odyssey Neo G8: The World’s First 4K, 240Hz MiniQLED display

TECH NEWS – The 32″ monitor features a 1000R curve, 3840×2160 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and Quantum MiniLED technology. Two other monitors have also been revealed.

Samsung has previously released the Odyssey Neo G9, which features similar technology. The South Korean company’s latest display technology minimizes the number of existing LEDs used as light sources to 1/40th and supports Quantum Matrix image quality control. The maximum brightness is thus 2000 nit. The Odyssey Neo G8 also features Samsung’s Quantum HDR 2000 technology. This year’s CES will showcase the monitor with brightness control in 4096 steps or 12 bits. The black detail will be perfect, and it will also have the industry’s highest fixed contrast ratio (1000000:1).

The monitor features two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4 (not DP 2…?). The CoreSync feature automatically recognizes the screen’s colour and matches the backlighting and colour of the product. It can also be connected to consoles and has many gaming features, such as Auto Source Switch+. For example, if you have a PlayStation 5 (also) attached to it and turn it on, the display will switch to that.

Meanwhile, Samsung plans to release a 32″ monitor (in UHD resolution) M8 this year, with user-friendly functionality and a slimmer design. It’s a next-gen concept display with lots of OTT services and document creation, so you don’t need to connect a separate TV or PC with a smart hub. Samsung wants to create a new display market with it. The Smart Monitor M8 also has a dedicated camera that can be removed from the monitor using the magnetic base. It will also support video apps such as Google Duo. With the programs installed as standard, you can telecommunicate: take part in video conference calls even from home.

The intelligent display can also be used as the main IoT screen in the home by integrating Samsung’s in-house IoT (Internet of Things) hub. Using the hub, you can monitor the status of devices directly through the smart display, allowing you to monitor the status of IoT devices (even while viewing content) using the company’s SmartThings app to control appliances or lighting remotely. It has an 11.4mm design (one-third thinner) for optimal use of space and can be aesthetically integrated with the white colour. The stand’s height is adjustable.

Finally, the UHD Monitor S8 is also here for graphic designers and creatives who spend hours working on their projects. Samsung has put the health of users’ eyes first. The 27″ and 32″ monitors will be the first on the market to be described by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) as glare-free. The 32″ version is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified, but both models come with wired LAN support, 98% colour gamut support based on DCI-P3, a 90W charger and USB Type-C, so you can even move data around while you’re working.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8, Smart Monitor M8 and UHD Monitor S8 will all hit stores in the first half of the year.
