The co-operative play option was scheduled to arrive in Halo Infinite at the start of the second season on 3 May.
Halo Infinite’s creative director Joseph Staten posted a blog post with news on the game, upcoming seasons, and the status of co-op and Forge mode, and unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer to sit on a couch with friends and enjoy Master Chief’s latest co-op adventure.
Although Co-op mode and Forge mode were supposed to arrive with Season 2 and Season 3, respectively, Staten shared some priorities in his announcement and revealed that some issues have arisen that may cause the classic game mode to not arrive for the start of Season 2 after all.
Co-op is still planned for Season 2
“It’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured 4-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo Infinite. We’re also committed to a great 2-player split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One through Xbox Series X – and the non-linear, wide-open sections of the Campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve,” Staten admitted.
However, the creative director was upbeat and hoped that the Co-op mode would be ready before the end of Season 2, and promised to announce a new date as soon as possible. Staten also highlighted the significant development of the Forge, reaffirming the goal to have it ready for Season 3.
Halo Infinite Season 2 will arrive on 3 May as Lone Wolves. The entire theme of the season will revolve around these Lone Wolf Spartans, showcasing the fierce, tough Lone Wolves loyal to Spartan command. Season 2 will immerse us in the history of the Lone Wolves with cinematics, themed events and Battle Pass elements.
Not all Season 2 content will be related to this theme: as an example, Staten presented some concept designs for Fracture weapons. Season 2 will also feature balance changes, player frame updates, new modes and maps, including the return of King of the Hill.
The latest instalment of 343 Industries’ acclaimed Xbox franchise arrives on 8 December 2021; in case you haven’t read it yet, here’s what we think of the game!
