MOVIE NEWS – Thor: Love and Thunder is undergoing reshoots with Christian Bale, who will play the villain, Gorr the God Butcher.
There has been quite a concern in fans of the MCU after hearing the news about the upcoming Thor film. The parts featuring Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher are undergoing reshoots to bring more out of Gorr’s scenes. This might be concerning to some for being relatively close to the release date of the new Thor film, which is the 8th of July. However, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios addressed the issue and ensured fans that there was nothing to worry about; these reshoots are just opportunities to bring the most out of their material:
“‘Reshoots’ was a bad word. ‘Oh this movie’s in reshoots, there must be a problem.’ Reshoots are key to our films, starting with Iron Man. We always say we’re smart filmmakers at Marvel, but we’re not geniuses and the best way to give notes on a movie is to watch the movie. So we make the movie and go, ‘Oh yeah, no that’s not right. That doesn’t work,” and have a system now that can be quite precise and efficient. [Reshoots last] sometimes one day, sometimes fifteen days, sometimes more to continue to go in and make the movie the best it can be.”
Supposedly, the reshoots are holding Marvel Studios back from releasing the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer despite being four months away from the film’s release date. We don’t know much about Christian Bale’s Gorr; no official images or clips have been shown yet, only a few pictures of him on set in his costume.
However, Gorr’s portrayal will surely be interesting. The character has a pretty dark backstory; he grows up on a planet without a name and is constantly on the edge of starvation, having no other hope than the gods, to whom he prays each day. Despite that, he receives no help and eventually stops believing in them, for which he gets exiled. Then he witnesses two fighting gods, and as he realises their ignorance for him all along, he’ll become enraged with hatred and desire for revenge. This desire will eventually lead him to Thor. We don’t know yet, how much of Gorr’s story will the film cover; however, we’re certainly curious about the Oscar-winning Christian Bale’s take on the villain.
Thor: Love and Thunder is will be released in the United States on the 8th of July, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel.
