First Contact Entertainment is working on an unannounced game. Is the studio working on Firewall Zero Hour’s sequel?
On Twitter, Faizan Shaikh shared what Damoun Shabestari, a game director at First Contact Entertainment, shared on his LinkedIn profile. You can read here that in addition to Firewall Zero Hour, he’s also been working on Solaris OffWorld Combat (another VR game, only this one is for Oculus Quest, Oculus Quest 2 and Oculus Rift S in addition to PlayStation VR… although they should be called Meta now that Zuckerberg is phasing out the old brand name). Now he’s got something for PlayStation VR2 in development. Meanwhile, Firewall Zero Hour is on its ninth season, Operation Rogue Tide; he’s also responsible for expanding its content.
The timing is perhaps no coincidence. First Contact Entertainment has several job offers, and the job descriptions mention that the new hires would be working on the next generation of virtual reality. They have two full-time positions open for applications. One is for a level designer position, and the other is for a mission designer position that could take the successful candidate. For the former, the challenges of creating the next generation of VR are highlighted for the successful candidate to overcome.
Firewall Zero Hour was released in 2018 and is considered one of the most potent titles on the PlayStation VR. On Metacritic, it currently has an average score of 79 on a scale of 1-100, which is not a bad result for a VR game, especially one whose technology has been overtaken almost instantly by PC rivals (Meta Quest/Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index…). That’s why the second-generation PSVR is in the works, and we recently wrote that its release could slip to 2023. A new headset for the PlayStation 5 wouldn’t be a bad idea for a sequel to Firewall Zero Hour, as fans and media alike would be happy with the plan.
If there’s something new for Horizon on PlayStation VR2 (being done jointly by Guerrilla Games and FireSprite), why not?
