TECH NEWS – The Nintendo Switch hybrid has overtaken the PS4 to become the fourth most popular console in US history.
The Nintendo Switch is a true success story. According to the results of its latest fiscal year, the company has recorded its best year ever for console game sales, adding to the fact that its hybrid continues to enjoy unbroken sales success. If that weren’t enough to get the celebrations going in the Kyoto offices, we could now confirm what the latest estimates have already predicted: the Nintendo Switch has overtaken the PS4 to become the fourth best-selling console in US history.
The Nintendo Switch will be the best-selling console in the US in 2022.
The data shared by Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group analyst firm is revealing. We’ve already covered the essential news from April’s results, but it’s also worth noting that the month was actually a profitable one for Nintendo. After all, the Nintendo Switch (including the OLED and Lite) was the best-selling console this month and in general so far in 2022. Similarly, the Xbox series is in second place in both areas.
The award for the console with the highest dollar sales, at least for the month of April, went to the PS5. The Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch followed closely behind, finishing the month in second and third place, although we shouldn’t forget the performance of video games in the US. According to Piscatella, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems to have set a personal best.
Just over a month on the market, the latest LEGO Star Wars is already the sixth best-selling LEGO game in the franchise’s history.
Along this line, TT Games’ latest creation not only topped software sales in April but also became the second best-selling game of 2022 in its first few days. These numbers, which reflect sales of the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and Steam versions, make LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga the sixth best-selling LEGO game in franchise history, with just one month to go since its release.
It’s certainly been a great month for both Nintendo Switch and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. We can only praise TT Games for their work with their latest game, as they’ve managed to develop an absurdly fun title that also pays homage to all three film trilogies in the space franchise.
