Hitman 3 now supports ray tracing, which gives the whole game a visual and performance boost, although we may be left with a sense of inadequacy in the latter…
IO Interactive-developed Hitman 3 is one of the latest games to get the ray tracing (RT) “treatment”. However, it may not be as impressive as many had hoped.
In a recent benchmark test conducted by DSO Gaming, Hitman 3 was tested to see exactly how well the AI update works in the 2021 stealth title. Using an Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card and an Intel i9 990K processor, all with 16GB of DDR 4 memory, it seems that the game doesn’t perform as smoothly as it was designed to.
Frame rates often drop below 50 fps, even with DLSS Performance Mode turned on.
Although the report acknowledges that there are indeed a lot of crowds to render in certain areas of the game, such as Dubai, they feel that proper optimisation should have taken care of the performance degradation.
The ray tracing feature in Hitman 3 has been in the pipeline for some time. While the game looks stunning without RT, it’s a popular and important way to implement visual and performance enhancements, and it’s something that many AAA titles will inevitably get. The fact that it seems to be falling short of what is expected will undoubtedly be sad news for many who have been eagerly awaiting an update to the game. It may simply be an optimisation issue, so perhaps a future patch will help iron out the bugs. The report also states that additional screenshots from the benchmark test will be available later.
