MOVIE NEWS – An adaptation of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game The Last of Us could arrive in early 2023.
In good hands, The Last of Us: HBO is once again – for the umpteenth time – one of the most prominent platforms to receive an Emmy Award nomination at the annual awards ceremony for excellence in the US television industry. With this seal of quality behind them, it’s only natural that audiences were thrilled to hear the news that they were adapting Naughty Dog’s cult game. Now that filming is complete, the only question remains: when can we start streaming?!
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Casey Bloys, Head of Content for HBO and HBO Max, expressed optimism that The Last of Us series could be on screens “in early 2023”.
The executive declined to give any further details or clues as to when we might get a trailer, although given the scale of the project, hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long, especially with The Last of Us: Part 1 coming out in September.
The Last of Us will be one of HBO and HBO Max’s 2023 schedule highlights. Before that, of course, we can expect big things from the service: the prequel series to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, will premiere at the end of August, and there are several spin-off series from Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Filming on the series wrapped in June, the production, developed by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann, stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, who were seen in a recent image released by the platform.
More The Last of Us projects
The TV adaptation of Naughty Dog’s smash hit video game will arrive shortly after the Part 1 ‘remake’ on PS5 and, as yet unspecified date, on PC, offering Sony console users a video game remake that is likely to generate even more appetite for watching the TV series. In addition, multiplayer development for the second part is underway.
