MOVIE NEWS – Solo co-writer Lawrence Kasdan has denied rumours of a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story Disney+ but remains open to making another film.

Lawrence Kasdan , co-writer of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), is still interested in writing the sequel. “No, that’s not talked about,” Kasdan revealed to Inverse when asked about a Han Solo TV series . “I’ve never been particularly attracted to the idea of ​​expanding [Solo] into a TV series. But I talk a lot with Jon [Kasdan] and Ron [Howard] about what went right and what went wrong in the Solo experience . I would be more interested in doing another movie, not a TV series.”

If Kasdan is still in talks with his co-writer and the film’s director about Solo, it suggests that the filmmakers still maintain interest in a sequel. Of course, the most important thing is whether Lucasfilm will indeed greenlight Solo 2, as they will need the budget to make the film. Going in that direction seems like a risk that studio executives are not really willing to take again after the first film fell short of expectations.

In a May interview with Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy seemed to shy away from the possibility of Solo 2. Kennedy explained at the time that the film’s failure to meet the studio’s goals was a lesson learned. He said that there would be no more films like Harrison Ford’s Han Solo, with new actors playing the roles of the established leads.

“There have to be moments along the way when you learn things. It really seems so obvious now that we can’t do that,” Kennedy said.

“[Solo] didn’t do as well as other Star Wars movies, but for a movie, it still did well,” Alden Ehrenreich said after the film’s 2018 premiere,” via GamesRadar. “And so it was kind of a mediocre thing. But that’s not news. Even in high-level journalism, there’s a lot of pressure. Sometimes it feels like [either] disaster or celebration.”

Suggesting that the negative press also influenced the turnout, the actor added: “And I think that’s very cyber dangerous, especially when it comes to things that really matter, like the state of the world. An article headline that says ‘things are complicated and there are good and bad sides’ doesn’t elicit an emotional response. And I think we really need to take a step back and think a lot more about how our emotions are driven by the stories we’re inundated with.”

At the moment, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney have spoken of a sequel, although the companies are preparing a spin-off series focused on Lando Calrissian with Donald Glover as the protagonist.
