The developers of Street Fighter 6 have stated that they would like to do a crossover between the fighting game series and heroes from DC or Marvel Comics.
The developers of the upcoming fighting game Street Fighter 6 recently made an interesting comment. According to their statement, they want to do a crossover between the fighting game series and superheroes from Marvel or DC Comics. Regarding the best fighting games, Capcom’s crown jewel, Street Fighter, is at the top of the list for many. With a sixth mainline instalment coming out next year, fans are eager to see what’s in store for the series. The game has quickly become one of the most anticipated releases of 2023. Capcom has been marketing the game as a fresh experience, and Game Informer has revealed several new features for fans.
These include the introduction of a new, simplified control scheme in the game and announcing that Capcom and Udon Entertainment will create a series of Street Fighter 6 comics that tie into the game’s plot.
Game Informer also recently conducted a rapid interview with two key development team members. Director Takayuki Nakayama and Shuhei Matsumoto answered various questions in a fast-paced interview.
Some of the questions made the developers laugh. Among them was which series they would like to see a Street Fighter crossover with in the future. Nakayama said he was a big fan of DC Comics, saying it would be a fantastic opportunity. He notes that he would also like to work with DC and Marvel Comics. Matsumoto added that the option would be “a lot of fun”. Both note, however, that it’s not easy to pull off and laugh about it at the end of their response.
Given that Warner Bros. and Netherrealm Studios own the rights to the DC Comics characters as the developer of the DC Comics Injustice Fighting game, this led to the question of a possible crossover between Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
Nakayama notes that it would be “very cool”. He then immediately added that it would be unpleasant to watch certain characters in the series get their heads knocked off. And Matsumoto said it might be okay if this bloody action happened off-screen instead.
Towards the end of the rapid interview, they were asked about which Marvel Comics character would best fit into the Street Fighter 6 line-up. Nakayama said he would love to have Killmonger in the game. While Capcom is no stranger to crossovers, the realisation of such specific team-ups would be a miracle. Especially since it’s much harder to get the necessary approval from rights holders nowadays than it used to be. Still, with a lucky alignment of stars, many fans would be happy to see some Marvel or DC guest stars in the upcoming game.
