It’s not a lot, but it’s a fair offer offered by Bungie, now part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, as a starting point for gamers who used the now-defunct cloud service.

The departure of Google Stadia brings to mind T.S. Eliot’s poem The Hollow Ones: it went out “not with a bang but a whimper.” Destiny 2 has been with the service almost until the end (it didn’t work correctly on Google’s service in the last few days). Stadia’s departure has left its players stranded. Still, at least Bungie is trying to offer an alternative, albeit temporary, so it’s worth treating the team’s offer as a starting point.

9to5Google has reported that Bungie has informed users who played on the now dead cloud service (even though Google has licensed out its technology to customers like AT&T and refunding game purchases but not Stadia Pro subscriptions!), they don’t want players to be left behind so that they can use Nvidia’s GeForce Now service for free for a month, and that too with Priority membership.

Their offer runs until February 19, but it’s fair enough in any case because GeForce Now works on PC, iOS, Android, Nvidia Shield, and several smart TVs, which is a more robust line-up than Google could offer (it’s inexplicable that more of their hardware didn’t support Stadia, which didn’t even have a search engine when it launched). Nvidia is trying to keep up with the technology. (That said, the RTX 4080, Ultimate subscription may still show up with cloud performance lagging behind the frame rate of the actual video card; we wrote about it the other day!)

With this offer, Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion can be played, and with GeForce Now, it’s not that Nvidia plans to develop games in-house. It simply wants to allow you to play even your Steam games in the cloud. And so far, their mentality is working.
