Baldur’s Gate III Delayed On Xbox Series; Larian Explains!

Larian Studios didn’t mince words when explaining why Baldur’s Gate III is coming out later on Xbox Series than on other platforms.

We’re not talking about the Google Stadia, as Larian had initially planned to make a new Baldur’s Gate for the Alphabet cloud platform. Still, after the Stadia failed, as did the far less wealthy OnLive, a similar attempt a decade ago, the Belgian team scrapped that port, leaving PlayStation 5, PC, Mac, and Xbox Series versions.

The RPG, which has been available for early access on PC since October 6, 2020, was recently announced to be released on August 31 for the PlayStation 5, PC, and Mac trio. Where is the Xbox Series version? That’s what Larian’s communications manager Molly Carroll wrote on the Baldur’s Gate III subreddit. We read the announcement on Gematsu, explaining why Microsoft’s consoles are a bit behind:

“Hey all, thanks for all the hype and enthusiasm following yesterday’s announcement that Baldur’s Gate III is coming to PlayStation 5 day and date with PC on August 31! Xbox players, we’ve seen your questions about if/when you can expect Baldur’s Gate III on Xbox. We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate III in the works for some time, but we have encountered some technical issues—particularly with split-screen co-op. We are still working on an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate III, but we’re not confident enough to announce it. We don’t like announcing anything until we’re ready because we don’t want to get people’s hopes up until we can deliver. No platform exclusivity prevents us from releasing Baldur’s Gate III on Xbox day and date, should that be a technical possibility. If and when we announce other platforms, we want to ensure each version meets our standards and expectations. Thanks for understanding!”

So the differences between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S could cause trouble…
